What a beauty! The parasitic yellow rattle has returned to our farm. The next stage in the regeneration of our pastures is seeing what will grow now that the grasses are weakened. As the number of plant species increases, the minerals in the soil should balance out leading to healthier, happier cattle and more nutritious beef.
30 species / m2 counts as a species rich sward. An old hay meadow could have 100+ species in it. Sadly, such fields are now very rare.
We are harvesting seeds and spreading them around the farm in an effort to recreate the lost beauty of our land.
